The Joys of Being a Hardware Tech
It's fun working for the company I do. I get paid to doing what I love best, and paid enough to support my wife and family. The only down side is, I get to play with all these wonderful technological marvels, but I never really get to know one thing really well. I get to play with Windows, Mac; HP, Compaq, IBM, Apple; Workstations and Servers; printers and switches; and everything in between. But ask me how to do a pivot table in Excel and I'm clueless (but I know where to look and find out the information). I can setup a new server and domain schema complete with DNS entries, but could not tell you the files boot order for any OS without research. It's also a constant battle of staying current on information and certifications, about 10-12 tests a year to stay current on all my manufacturer's. But, in the end, until I burn out, I wouldn't trade it for the world.
